MTA Lions Baseball Fall to TABC

On May 27th, the MTA Lions, MTA’s newly-established baseball team, took on the TABC Storm in a highly anticipated match-up. The Lions started the season with a disappointing debut, ending up last in the pre-season polls. However, the Lions have recently proved that for a 1st year program they can compete and put up a good fight. Even so, the Lions knew they were going to have trouble in the game without their star pitching ace and captain, Akiva Pudell, since he had just thrown a complete game against SAR the night before, and fellow captain, 1st baseman, Joey Goffstein, having a slow start to the season after having shoulder reconstruction during the offseason.

Liron Goldberg was able to help lead the offense and break up a potential TABC no-hitter in the late innings, while Eliyahu Spivack helped lead the defense and keep the errors to a minimum. Although MTA fell to the Storm 9-0, they have proven to the rest of the league that for a new team that had held tryouts days before their first game, their raw talent is comparable to every other team in the league. Despite it all, MTA still had great moments during its inaugural season such as when senior Shai Cohen was able to transition off the bench into an everyday starter and prove himself to be a really solid hitter in the league. Most of all, through difficult games, the MTA Lions exhibited phenomenal team playing and great sportsmanship in their quest for wins.

The MTA Lions baseball team wishes the best of luck to TABC in their playoff journey.
