The long-awaited return of varsity soccer, under new head coach Shlomo Amsalem, was worth the wait as the Lions shut out the YDE Thunder with a 15-0 win in the first game of the season. The game kicked off with senior Hudy Weiss and junior Rachamim Seltzer scoring three goals apiece. A surprising junior duo, Kovi Pahmer and Mendel Hein, proved too tough for YDE to handle. Freshman Eli Sheer had himself a night to remember with two goals in his first ever yeshiva league game. By the third quarter, Coach Amsalem focused on passing, with junior Tzvi Eisen leading the offense to what Coach Amsalem later called, “The greatest thing [he’d] ever seen in yeshiva league soccer.” Starting goalie, senior Eitan Pfeiffer, along with senior Ariel Retter and junior Akiva Scheckter, held down the fort and delivered the shutout win. Kudos to YDE, who kept their heads up and played hard the entire game. The MTA Lions look forward to carrying this energy through the rest of the season.
