Talmidim were scared when Assistant Principal Rabbi Schenker announced a new dress code requiring us to wear white shirts and black pants. The fear turned into excitement when we realized we were fooled by the unexpected, but awesome breakout of Color War 2017! The fun began when teams Nes (Juniors), Gadol (Seniors), Haya (Freshmen), and Sham (Sophomores) received their team colors and T-shirts and everyone gathered in the MAX for a game of four-way dodgeball. The juniors took the early lead, but color war was just beginning.
The next day, after shiur, there were a ton of fun activities to gain points for teams, including soccer, basketball, Ping-Pong, hockey, football, chess, quiz bowl, food-eating competitions, Torah Bowl and even extreme Tic-Tac-Toe—there was truly something for everyone. The activities were not only competitive and fun, but also required team-building skills. The events wrapped up with a huge Apache Race, that took teams all over the MTA building and YU campus completing various tasks, including setting tables, spelling MTA using people to form the letters and learning Mishnayot. The ruach was intense at the closing ceremonies, where teams presented their thematic songs, banners, Stomp and Divrei Torah, which were all extremely impressive. At the end of an amazing and close color war, the juniors advanced to victory, continuing on from their sophomore win last year.
The two-day Chanukah-themed color war was an amazing opportunity to have a great time with friends, rebbeim and teachers. Thanks to all the staff who helped out, especially Director of Student Activities Elie Hirt.
