Naaleh’s AP Euro class isn’t old school—they’re more like a 300-year-old school. That’s right, it was back to powdered wigs and debates on human nature as AP European History hosted its fourth annual Enlightenment Salon. The Salon, hosted by Ms. Miriam Eisenberg, was attended by its usual cast of great thinkers and influencers of yesteryear, including the reigning monarchs of Russia, Prussia and Austria. The spirit of the Age of Reason was very much alive (nourished by coffee, cocoa, croissants and cookies, of course) in the classroom. The passion for knowledge and understanding that motivated the great philosophers of the Enlightenment ignited the enthusiasm of the AP Euro class while debating the hottest topics of the day, from the rights of government and individuals, to the purpose and methods of education.
Although the students regretfully bid adieu to their Enlightenment personas at the end of the day, they are looking forward to more exciting learning opportunities as they push deeper into their study of European History.
