Naaleh Sophomore Wins Third Place in Arts Competition

Naaleh sophomore, Tamar Morell, placed third in The Weinberger Arts Competition for ninth-12th grade visual arts with a beautiful piece entitled “Unity Among Diversity.” The piece is now displayed, along with three other works by Morell, at the Weinberger Holocaust Museum and Center for Tolerance.

Morell says about her piece:

My artwork reflects diversity and inclusion. After October 7, 2023, the different cultures of Jews in Israel have joined together as one man with one heart. They have been able to appreciate each other regardless of their feelings about their differences in culture and customs. The older man is a man who endured similar hardships to the people of the present. Though they lived in different eras they empathize with each other’s hardships. They are able to identify with each other across time periods. The non-religious Jew, the Sephardic Jew, the Hasidic Jew, the scholarly Jew and the soldier all come from different mindsets, different cultures with different customs but can now relate to each other better than they ever did since they are all enduring the same hardships. This piece means a lot to me, especially this year. Unfortunately, my cousin Maoz Morell died in battle in Gaza. He was a selfless Jew protecting his homeland and his people. He looked and acted like an ordinary person but in truth was a very deep, committed person who cared about the next person more than himself. His memory should live on in all of us and should be a blessing.
