Mrs. Karten’s 10th grade English classes culminated their unit on Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” with a spirited Socratic seminar. The students discussed, debated and analyzed themes from the novel including women’s role in society, moral questions sparked by scientific advancement, and whether “monsters” are created or born. The intellectual vigor displayed by the girls not only demonstrated their proficiency in literary analysis but also highlighted Naaleh’s commitment to fostering thoughtful and relevant discussions that bridge the students’ coursework with issues relevant to their daily lives.
