Naaleh’s LIFT committee for religious programming, under the guidance of Ashira Senter, created a fantastic yom iyun at Shomrei Torah in Fairlawn focusing on the concept of kavod. In thought-provoking, practical workshops, the girls explored five different categories of kavod. Rabbi Markowitz spoke about kavod HaTorah and the concept of sheimot—introducing the laws about proper disposal of holy materials. After learning the halachot, the girls sorted through boxes of sheimot for the shul. They rotated through workshops on respect for the community, respect for one’s parents and traditions and respect for one’s self. The program was closed by Senter who led the girls in an activity on kavod habriot. The girls left with some sweet treats in a coffee cup to prepare for Shavuot!
