Last week, Naaleh’s studio art teacher, Mrs. Schneier, brought in her father to speak to the girls, and together they led a special workshop for Ms. Poline’s 10th grade history class titled, “Traveling Testimony: If These Objects Could Talk.” The interactive session introduced the girls to rare Holocaust artifacts from Mrs. Schneier’s family collection that her father has collected over the past four decades. These artifacts included authentic concentration camp ration cards, Warsaw Ghetto work cards, German passports, Star of David badges, Nazi propaganda postcards, WWII Batman comics, U.N. pamphlets and more. Donning gloves to handle the relics, the girls were grouped in pairs, with each receiving an artifact and list of accompanying questions to answer through research and hands-on exploration of the items. The groups then shared their historical findings with the class. It was a meaningful way to preserve and bring to life an important history that must never be forgotten.
