Last week, Naaleh students enjoyed a trip to New York City to visit the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. Students participated in the museum’s design workshop, an individualized hands-on tour and activity geared to sensitizing students to the powerful mechanisms of design. While observing the intricate architecture and unique artifacts, students were exposed to the role of designers as “problem solvers,” tracing the process through brainstorming, prototyping and testing. Following the tour, students entered the museum’s design studio, where they were charged with a design challenge of their own! Working in groups, students followed the design process, testing their instincts and design products in different environments. The trip provided a unique opportunity for collaborative reflection, connection and creativity.
