While the Naaleh students took a day off of classes to study for midterms, the teachers dedicated a day for meaningful professional development. The inspirational presentations included Dean of Students Elissa Chanales on grit and resilience and how students can grow through stress when properly supported, as well as guest speaker and world-renowned trauma expert Dr. Norman Blumenthal on acknowledging how the pandemic has impacted students’ lives and how it may affect their learning. The faculty had team meetings to collaborate between departments on improving shared visions for the students’ long-term success, and the staff bonded over a competitive game requiring knowledge of Naaleh trivia. The teachers ended the day with a sense of accomplishment and confidence in their ability to support their students through midterms and the upcoming semester.
