NACHUM SEGAL NETWORK & ORTHODOX UNION PARTNER IN HURRRICANE HARVEY RELIEF & AWARENESS IN HOUSTON

NY BASED JEWISH BROADCAST NETWORK TO PROVIDE LIVE COVERAGE OF THE DEVASTATION AND REBUILDING OF HOUSTON’S JEWISH COMMUNITY

NEW YORK – Top Jewish radio personality Nachum Segal and the Nachum Segal Network have partnered with the Orthodox Union to travel and broadcast next week live from Houston in their efforts to keep the global Jewish community updated on the needs and rebuilding efforts of the Jewish Community in Houston. Segal will be in Houston from Wednesday, September 6th through Friday, September 8th and will be broadcasting live from sites around the city. The announcement was made 7 a.m. Friday during NSN’s flagship broadcast, JM in the AM.

Special coverage of the recovery will include first-hand reports of the storm, its devastation and the recovery efforts including first hand experiences of the storm by Houston’s Jewish residents. The delegation will include Jewish musicians including Mordechai Shapiro and other celebrities including social media activist Meir K., as well as others who will help to lift the spirits of those effected by the storm.

Hurricane Harvey initially came ashore as a Category 4 hurricane in Texas on Friday, August 25th, then went back out to sea and lingered off the coast as a tropical storm for days, inundating flood-prone Houston. It has severely impacted the local Jewish community. Seventy-one percent of the city’s Jewish population of 63,700 lives in areas that have experienced high flooding. Three of the city’s five major synagogues have experienced significant flooding.

“Our brothers and sisters in Houston have gone through a terrible ordeal with so much of the community they built sitting in ruins,” said Nachum Segal, president and host of the Nachum Segal Network. “The goal of our trip is to highlight the community, what they’ve gone through and what lays ahead of them, sharing their stories and showing them the support from their brethren around the world. Our hope is that by being there and dedicating our shows to their stories, that listeners from all across the world will get involved with the recovery efforts. We’ve partnered with the Orthodox Union so that listeners who are inspired through our show can donate to help the Jewish community of Houston.”

“Hurricane Harvey’s toll on the Jewish Community of Houston is something we need to keep in the forefront of our minds in the weeks and months ahead. The Orthodox Union is coordinating a significant relief effort to help the Jewish Community there, and by partnering with the Nachum Segal Network we will be able to tell the story first hand of what they are going through and what help they will need to rebuild their lives there,” said Orthodox Union President Moishe Bane.
