The Nachum Segal Network (NSN) will present its third annual Kosher Halftime Show during intermission at the upcoming Super Bowl broadcast on Sunday, February 7. The community is invited to attend the kickoff party and recording of the half-hour show at the Teaneck Doghouse on Saturday night, February 6, at 9. Featured artist this year is the multi-talented superstar Lipa who will perform three selections with musical accompaniment by Neshama Orchestras. The show is sponsored this year by American Friends of Shaarei Zedek Hospital and YU Admissions.
Greeted for the last three years with the approbation of the Jewish community, the halftime show offers an alternative to the often inappropriate commercials aired during the Super Bowl.
“In our age of technology we are able to provide our large Jewish audience with meaningful and proper entertainment. Through this halftime alternative we hope to raise awareness in our community that there is a secular way and a Jewish way—and we can provide the latter,” comments Nachum Segal, host, executive director and president of NSN.
The idea behind the kosher halftime show is in keeping with Segal’s goals for his broadcast which he began in 1983. He sees his mission as threefold. First, to act as a conduit for Jewish news, information and events worldwide which need to be communicated to an informed Jewish community. Second, to continuously promote Israel through focusing upon Israeli organizations, communities, political figures and national events that can be supported worldwide. Most recently, Segal and his associates launched a second major event promoting the Jewish Unity Initiative, the November solidarity concert at the Great Synagogue in Paris. “Our goal is to remind ourselves and our Jewish brethren around the world that we are all connected. We care about our brothers and sisters globally,” says Segal.
The Nachum Segal Network is the Jewish world’s premier English-language internet radio network. Under the guidance of Segal, Miriam L. Wallach, executive director, and the impressive staff, NSN proudly features insightful, inspiring and timely content that is rooted in family values and that encourages a life of spiritual growth and the love of Israel. It is home to JM in the AM—Jewish Moments in the Morning—aired Monday through Friday, from 6 to 9 a.m., for over 30 years. NSN, established in 2012, also hosts an impressive lineup of programs 24/6. Needless to say, it features the most current and classic offerings of Jewish music on the airwaves.
Following Lenny Solomon in 2014 and Soul Farm in 2015, Lipa will surely “rock the crowd” both at The Doghouse and at the halftime show. Lipa’s unique personality, passion for spreading Torah, creativity in music and dance, and appeal to audiences across the spectrum make him a fitting entertainment alternative for the halftime show. The hope is that he will attract a goodly number of Jewish football fans to his performance. The show will be available in audio on the NSN APP and in video at nachumsegal.com.
The Teaneck Doghouse is a natural venue for the taping of the halftime show. Under the supervision of Rabbi Zushe Yosef Blech, Hashgachas Kashrus of Kehillas Bais Ben Zion of Monsey, it serves as the only kosher sports location in Bergen County, boasting 28 TVs and the ability to show all sporting games and events. Owner and host Jonathan Gellis invites the community to partake of its “friendly, family atmosphere, good food and constant fun.”
