Livingston—The NCJW/Essex 12th Annual Wonder of Women Film Festival took place on Sunday, November 1, at the Maurice Levin Theater on the Ross Family Campus of the Leon & Toby Cooperman JCC in West Orange, NJ. The event, attended by over 200 people, provided an inside look into the spirit and courage of women, portrayed through the lens of the camera. This year’s lineup included “Dukhtar” (Daughter), Pakistan’s official entry into the 87th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film, “A Single Life,” an Academy Award nominee for Best Animated Short Film from the Netherlands, as well as other films from the UK, Israel, France and the USA. In addition, the audience had the opportunity to speak with the writer and director of “Dukhtar,” Afia Nathaniel, via Skype, as well as in-person with Susan Slotnick, the subject of the film “The Game Changer,” about her experience teaching dance to male prisoners at a correctional facility. The film festival was made possible through the generous support of Audrey and Norbert Gaelen.
