Netivot Shalom’s Spring Lineup of Shabbat Afternoon Scholars

Teaneck–Congregation Netivot Shalom has an interesting and distinguished lineup of Shabbat afternoon scholars scheduled to speak this spring.

On January 10th, CB Neugroschl, head of school at YU High School for Girls, will speak after the 4:20 p.m. mincha, on “Rabbi Akiva: When Optimism Prevails.” Previously, Mrs. Neugroschl was the Director of Admissions at Teaneck’s Ma’ayanot High School for Girls, where she also taught Jewish history and philosophy.

On February 14, Sarah Rindner, who teaches literature at of Lander College for Women, will speak after the 4:55 p.m. mincha on “The Truth the Dead Know: A Literary Reading of Berachot 18b.” On March 21st, Jonathan Dauber, Associate Professor of Jewish Mysticism at YU’s Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies, will speak after the 6:35 p.m. mincha on “Secrecy and the Beginnings of Kabbalah.”

Shoshana Chanales, a member of the Judaic Studies faculty at SAR High School, will speak on April 18th on “Men and From Mars and Women are Also? The Relationships between Men and Women as Seen Through Parshat Bereshit.” On May 18th, Ronnie Perelis, Chief Rabbi Dr. Alcalay Chair in Sephardic Studies at Yeshiva University, will speak on “The Seductions of Sefared: The Hebrew Poets of Spain Struggle with the Sacred and the Profane.”

On weeks in which the shul does not present a speaker, the community is invited for seudah shlishit and a continuing Gemara shiur led by Congregation Netivot Shalom’s Rabbi Nathaniel Helfgot. Learn more at netivotshalomnj.org.
