The Nets defeated Nina Eizikovitz–Links Residential 40-36 in an exciting end to the Grade 3/4 season. The Nets led from start to finish but had to hold on after a furious comeback by the Nina Eizikovitz–Links Residential team that came up just short.
The Nets started strong jumping to a 12-7 lead after the first period thanks to a quick start from Gilad Jutkowitz (6 of his 12 team high points). In the second period, the Nets extended their lead to 9 points at the break with scoring from five different players. Josh Markovitz added 4 in the second quarter (also having a team high 12 points); David Grunstein added 4 points (10 for the game) in the half, along with strong defense and great leadership at point guard position; and Ethan Mauskopf and Zachary Benson (4 for game) added 2.
In the first half the Nina Eizikovitz–Links Residential team had 4 points from David Elishis (6 for the game), 3 each from Koby Wolk (5 for game) and Eytan Kirschenbaum and 2 from Binyamin Wenger.
The third quarter was back and forth with Eytan Kirschenbaum scoring 12 of his game high 21 points for Nina Eizikovitz–Links Residential team, forcing the “big three” of Grunstein, Jutkowitz and Markovitz from the Nets to counter each of his baskets.
In the fourth period the Nina Eizikovitz–Links Residential team made their push, led again by Kirschenbaum with help from Elishis, Wolk and Adam Levine. But they came up just short with key 4th quarter baskets from Benson, Jutkowitz and Markovitz that secured the Nets victory. David Grunstein was named game MVP for his overall play on both ends of the court. The coaches, sponsors, parents/families and of course the boys made it a fulfilling season and an exciting final game.
