There has been so much difficult news involving killings of a massive nature in this country, but the news of the brutal murder of Cpl. Dvir Sorek, HY”D, in Israel cannot be overlooked.
Only 18, the hesder yeshiva student had his entire future ahead of him. His life was taken by two Palestinian murderers. The IDF reported earlier this week the capture of the terrorists, who are cousins, one who has a direct connection to Hamas.
We mourn with all of Israel that this young life was snuffed out, especially in an act of terror. Not that we need reminders, but it is clear that no matter how technologically advanced Israel might be or whatever is going on behind the scenes to establish connections to Arab nations, Israel can never let its guard down to terrorism on any level.
That malicious Palestinians threw rocks at IDF soldiers who arrested the terrorists says a great deal about the “peaceful” intentions of those who would aid and abet murderers.
The IDF identified and apprehended Sorek’s murderers just two days after he was found stabbed to death in the Gush Etzion bloc. He was a resident of Ofra. He was unarmed and not in uniform when his body was discovered.
Sorek was just days short of his 19th birthday. He was an Ohr Torah Stone student.
“Our dear and beloved Dvir, in a few days we were supposed to celebrate your 19th birthday,” eulogized Sorek’s father, Yoav. “I think of these 19 years and I can’t help but smile because the memory of you lightens up my face.”
May Dvir’s memory be an aliyah for his family and all of klal Yisrael. And may Israel never ever let its guard down in its battle against Palestinian terrorists, whether they wield a knife or espouse toxic BDS rhetoric.
