In just the last two weeks, our communities across the state mobilized to make sure that Jewish voters could participate in the primary election, which was set to fall on Shavuot. To ensure we could vote, legislation was needed to move the election date. With remarkable determination, you:
- Worked with over 60 rabbis and community leaders to put out a strong statement educating decisionmakers about this challenge.
- Sent 10,000 letters to legislators urging them to introduce legislation to change the date of New Jersey’s 2025 primary.
- Met with your elected officials to express the importance of this issue and secured public statements in support of the date move.
- Testified at committee hearings in support of the legislation.
- Encouraged your friends and community to get involved in the process.
Our work to push for the 2025 primary date to be changed has paid off. Governor Murphy has signed into law legislation to move the election date from June 3 (Shavuot) to June 10.
Now, we must thank the New Jersey leadership who paved the way for this achievement in record speed: Gov. Murphy, Senate President Scutari, Assembly Speaker Coughlin and Assemblyman Schaer. Moving an election date is no small task, and their leadership was critical in ensuring that our community is not disenfranchised in this critical election.
Take 30 seconds to send a letter to thank leadership in Trenton. Showing our gratitude is critical to our advocacy efforts as we continue to fight for the needs and concerns of New Jersey’s Jewish community.
