New Robotics Center At Boys Town Jerusalem Is A Legacy For The Future

Teaneck—Israel’s newest state-of-the-art robotics laboratory, a gift of New Jersey Superior Court Judge David Follender of Teaneck, was dedicated on May 22nd at Boys Town Jerusalem. “With this donation, Judge Follender has invested wisely in the future of the Jewish People and the State of Israel,” Israeli Supreme Court Justice Zvi Tal declared at the dedication ceremony.

The spacious “Judge David B. and Irma R. Follender Robotics Center,” fully furnished and featuring a full array of sophisticated electronic instruments, will serve Boys Town students from 7thgrade through the school’s College of Applied Engineering. The College was selected by the Israel Defense Forces to provide specialized studies to train electronics specialists for the Air Force and the Ordnance Corps.

Judge Follender told Boys Town students that he is a “proud Jew” who has vigorously supported the State of Israel since its very early years. “At this point, I can look back and see where my late wife Irma and I made lasting contributions, and look forward to making a difference in the future. These aspirations have culminated in donating this robotics lab to Boys Town Jerusalem, where students will study robotics to improvethe world of tomorrow.”

After cutting the ribbon to the new facility, Judge Follender, his children Jonathan and Mark (both attorneys) and Nancy, three granddaughters, family and friends were given a firsthand demonstration of student-built robots gyrating throughout the new Follender Robotics Center. These included “stealth” robots which can enter and inspect the most difficult terrains for hidden bombs, while being operated and observed by army personnel a safe distance away.

The Follender’s staunch, ongoing support for Boys Town Jerusalem began with the “Judge David B. and Irma R. Follender Scholarship Endowment Fund” which has enabled numbers of needy students over the years to gain an education and the skills to succeed.

At the dedication ceremony of the new Follender Robotics Center, Jonathan Follender told his father, “I want to thank you for all you’ve done for the students of Boys Town and for all of us. We’re here today because of the future.”
