Teaneck has a well-developed park system including 25 parks; however there are few water recreational facilities in the parks. Several of the parks in town have wading pools, but they are not in good condition and underused, explained Bernard Pearson, a member of the Teaneck Park, Playground and Recreation Advisory Board.
The “Make-A-Splash” committee is looking to upgrade the current wading pools in Teaneck parks and construct an all-inclusive, water park that would feature sprinklers. The sprinklers would both sprinkle water from below and gently shower it from above from a variety of fun water spray elements and structures.
The new outdoor garden and play area will “make a splash” with children of all ages and capabilities. This aquatic recreational area will be secure and is designed to seamlessly meet the needs of all children, including those who are handicapped. It is anticipated that when completed, it will be a great, free, summer-fun activity for town residents.
The town does not have the resources necessary to fully fund this endeavor. Fundraising has begun to support this project. The path leading to the water park will include bricks engraved with the names of those who support the Make-A-Splash project in Teaneck. Corporate sponsorship for the benches and water features is available.
The mission of the Make-A-Splash committee is to improve the recreational facilities in the town of Teaneck. Its vision is to provide a free water play area in the town parks for all residents. We need help to make that mission and vision a reality. To join the committee or inquire about brick donation or corporate sponsorship please contact [email protected].
