“My New Year’s resolution is to lose weight,” said Yael. “My New Year’s resolution is to save more money,” said Rachel. “My New Year’s resolution is to stop cutting my toenails so short,” said Tamar. “Tamar, that’s an unusual resolution. Why did you pick that one?” “ I get so many ingrown toenails because I cut my nails too short. I didn’t realize why this was happening until I saw my podiatrist. She explained reasons this condition occurs and how to avoid it from recurring. It doesn’t just happen to me, though. My poor son, Yankel, also gets recurrent ingrown toenail infections as well. Since he was a young teenage boy, he cut his nails too short and wore shoes that were too tight. I noticed that the skin by the corner of his big toe kept getting irritated, red, swollen and even had pus at times. It hurts so much. When we saw Dr. Benson, she removed his ingrown toenail and mine with minimal pain. She numbed our toes, removed the offending nail and we were good to go minutes later. She explained that we needed a short course of antibiotics and a little soaking with epsom salts. It was such a good experience and now Yankel and I feel great. If it happens again I will definitely go to her immediately. There’s no need to suffer. So now you understand my New Year’s resolution. But if you still think it’s a little unusual you should have heard my resolution last year.”
A happy and healthy New Year to all!
