New York Times best-selling author Adam Gidwitz, author of “A Tale Dark and Grimm” and “The Inquisitor’s Tale,” visited SAR High School on Monday, December 11 to meet with students.
At lunch with AP Literature students, Gidwitz discussed his writing process, focusing especially on “The Inquisitor’s Tale,” which tells the story of the mass burning of the Talmud in 13th century France under King Louis IX. Gidwitz then led a creative writing workshop with seniors and discussed the Middle Ages with ninth grade students who had read his most recent novel.
Gidwitz noted that he was very impressed by the “depth of thought encouraged by the curriculum and that kids were willing to engage with it. They made me think and they made me laugh.” Students found him extremely entertaining and informative and were excited to explore a novel that emphasizes Jewish themes, characters and history.
