U.S. Admits ISIS is Here
TIME magazine reports that Americans who fought for ISIS are back in the United States, a senior Obama administration official said Monday, the first time the administration has acknowledged ISIS is here. The number of Americans who have gone to fight has been disputed. According to the National Counterterrorism Center, more than 100 Americans have left to fight alongside ISIS or the al Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front. Some them have come back to the States. “It includes those who’ve gone, those who’ve tried to go, some who’ve come back and are under active–the FBI is looking at them,” the official said. He did not say what is being done to monitor and prevent Americans from coming home. “This is worked on a case-by-case basis,” the official said, “I defer to the FBI.”
Afghan Soldiers AWOL Caught at Niagara Falls
The Daily Beast reported Monday that, “The three officers from Afghanistan’s army who went missing inside the United States have been found trying to cross into Canada. They were located trying to cross at Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, New York. The soldiers were on a joint military training exercise in Cape Cod before they disappeared this weekend. Officials were never particularly concerned about their disappearance, though, saying they were fully vetted before they arrived in the U.S. The officers arrived in the U.S. on Sept. 11 and were reported missing by base security personnel late Saturday. Two Afghan policemen recently went missing while in Washington, D.C. for a DEA training program; they were found safe somewhere outside D.C.”
