No Hung Jury for Bruriah’s ‘Twelve Angry Women’

One angry woman can be scary and a bit entertaining. So, what happens if you put 12 angry women in a room? Pure magic! This year’s production of “12 Angry Women” was set in the 80s, the era that brought us “Stranger Things” and “Back to the Future.” Eden Leibowitz and Chana Silver directed their talented cast in a credible takeoff of the 1954 teleplay “Twelve Angry Men.”

Set in a jury-deliberation room, the jury must decide the fate of an inner-city boy who’d been accused of murder. As the 12 women try to reach a unanimous decision while sequestered in a room, one juror (juror #8, played by Adina Solomon) casts considerable doubt on elements of the case. Jurors including the foreman and guard were played by Hila Ben-Baruch, Shana Erblich, Rikki Hertz, Elisheva Hirsch, Hodaya Hizami, Baila Landa, Rivka Marcus, Avigayil Rosenbluth, Geula Rosenfeld, Chava Schapiro, Adina Solomon and Lana Stern. Each girl in the cast brought her interpretation of her character to the table. Whether they were pretending to stab someone or eating constantly, every actor shined on stage. The production was a smashing success and displayed Bruriah’s ladies of theatre as talented, committed, and passionate actors.

The show’s producers, Shira Hagler and Rivka Moskowitz, were joined by a crew that made all the moving pieces come together. Bracha Gluck on props; Gila Alter, Atara Rothwachs, Adina Schwartz and Sarah Yager on lighting; Chayale Adler, Miriam Brickman and Chana Rutner on sound; Shira Kosowsky on backstage; Bracha Gewirtz, Daniella Landau and Lana Stern on hair/makeup. The cast and crew brought so many special effects, flavors and colors to the production that made it even more special. Brava!
