Thank you for your wonderful publication. It is truly my Shabbat “companion.”
I am writing to you because almost six months after October 7, I see that in many articles, some writers are still describing the atrocities of that horrific day, including the rapes, beheadings and families burnt alive. We do not need this sensationalist writing anymore. I believe that, without minimizing these horrific atrocities in the least, these descriptions can be omitted and replaced with an umbrella phrase, such as acts of barbarity, savagery or brutality. We all, as a collective conscience, know the specific evil acts that occurred and carry the scars of that knowledge in our Jewish souls. We do not need reminders. Mentioning atrocities of this magnitude will automatically trigger a replay in our minds.
We need to shift our collective consciousnesses, especially on Shabbat, into that of hope, unity and justice for our people.
