Last Wednesday night, the Noam Knights sixth grade girls basketball team faced RPRY in the championship game of the YMSSA. Both teams entered the game undefeated from their respective divisions, so the energy was high going into the game. The game started strong with Noam scoring several baskets right from the start. But RPRY wasn’t going down without a fight. Every time Noam scored points to go slightly ahead, RPRY fought back and evened the score, with a run of fast break points. By halftime, the score was still close, with Noam having a slight edge and the score, 25-21. After pep talks and strategy discussions from both coaches, the second half started with both teams ready to play hard.
As the second half began, the Noam Knights came out ready to play. The third quarter saw many fast break lay-ups and back door cuts. Noam was able to break down the man to man defense of RPRY and went on a 21-8 run during the third quarter, opening up a 17 point lead. With tough defense and great rebounding, Noam was able to keep RPRYs scoring to a minimum. The Noam sixth grade girls emerged victorious, with a score of 53-30 at the end of the game. Both teams played an amazing game.
The girls were truly fortunate to be led by a wonderful coaching staff. Coach Ariela has instilled in this group from the very first practice the importance of good midot, both on and off the court. This group of girls reflected these important life lessons on so many levels which is what truly makes them champions.
