NORPAC Board Member Jack Rosen recently hosted Senator Mark Udall at a pro-Israel event in Manhattan. After five terms representing Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District, Mark Udall was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2008. In the Senate, Udall serves on three committees, including Armed Services, Energy and Natural Resources, and the Select Committee on Intelligence. Through his different positions, Udall has worked to strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship.
As a member of the Select Committee on Intelligence, Udall was one of four senators in a bipartisan delegation that traveled to Israel. In Israel, the senators got a first-hand look at the country’s Iron Dome missile defense system. After returning, Udall said, “I visited an iron dome barrier and I can tell you that iron dome works and it saves lives. I’m going to keep using my [Strategic Forces Subcommittee] chairmanship to make sure that those programs hold strong…and as long as I’m the chair of that subcommittee, Israel will not be held hostage to terrorist, rocket, and missile attacks period.”
In NYC, Udall reiterated his support for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, and pointed to the Iron Dome’s successful interception of over 400 incoming Hamas and Hezbollah missiles as a testament to its significance. Udall also advocated the importance of the U.S.-Israel Strategic Partnership Act (S.462), a bill he cosponsors, which expands U.S.-Israel cooperation and designates Israel as a Major Strategic Partner of the U.S.
Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) was also in attendance at the event for Udall in NYC. Schumer confidently endorsed Senator Udall as an important supporter of a strong U.S.-Israel relationship.
Senator Mark Udall is running for reelection in the upcoming 2014 election.
