On December 6th, Dr. Alan and Deborah Berger, on behalf of NORPAC, welcomed former Arkansas Governor and TV personality Mike Huckabee to their home in Englewood for a two-hour meeting. Gov. Huckabee greeted and conversed with the approximately 35 supporters in attendance, followed by a speech and question and answer period where he shared his perspective on Israel, the Iran nuclear deal, and other issues of the day.
When directly asked why a former Governor of Arkansas is a devoted supporter of Israel, he stated, “God’s prophecy is for the Jews to be in Israel and he’s not broken that covenant.” He explained that Israel and the United States have an organizational relationship, and an organic one. Both nations were founded in opposition to tyranny and developed democratic governance.
Huckabee explained that his ties to Israel go back to his first trip there at the age of 17. “From the first time I was there, I felt like I was home. I was no stranger.” Although he has not announced a presidential bid, Gov. Huckabee expressed his belief that being a governor is a distinct advantage as a precursor for being President over being a legislator. He cited that “running a state is a microcosm of a federal government.”
