On March 10th, NORPAC’s Teaneck chapter had its inaugural 2015 event for House Democratic Whip, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD). Nathan and Shari Lindenbaum hosted this event at their home, their fifth time hosting Mr. Hoyer.
As Whip, Steny Hoyer is the second-ranking Democrat in the House. He is charged with mobilizing the party vote on important legislation, acting as a liaison between Members and the Democratic Leadership, and coordinating strategy within the Caucus. He also plays a key role in shaping House Democrats’ legislative priorities and in delivering the Democratic message. Hoyer has also been one of the leading Democratic Members bringing freshman Members of Congress to Israel and educating them on the U.S.-Israel relationship.
More than 30 people came out to hear the Democratic Whip speak about his commitment to strengthening America’s alliance with Israel and keeping Iran’s nuclear weapons ambitions at bay. Hoyer, who attended Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech last week, has been supportive of new sanctions legislation on Iran and voted in favor of the Nuclear Iran Prevention Act of 2013. He stated at the event that he is still committed to making sure that a good deal is reached with Tehran that would ensure complete transparency of their enrichment program and a large safety net preventing any possible nuclear weapons breakout capability.
NORPAC continues to host Members of Congress in the Bergen area with events for Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal later this month. House Foreign Relations Chair Ed Royce will also be visiting Teaneck next month to talk about his efforts strengthening relations with Israel.
