Miriam and Allen Pfeiffer hosted Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY) in their home for a NORPAC event last Sunday. Since being first elected in 1989, Rep. Engel has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to the US-Israel relationship. As the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs committee, Rep. Engel is a key player in ensuring that the US-Israel relationship remains secure and strong. At the NORPAC event, Rep. Engel assured the audience that support for Israel is completely bipartisan in both the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and in Congress as a whole.
Rep. Engel addressed many current issues at the NORPAC event, including the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran. Engel explained that he opposed the deal because he is concerned that the billions of dollars that Iran will receive will be used to sponsor terrorism and harm both Americans and Israelis.
Regarding movements to boycott Israeli products, like BDS, Rep. Engel said that these movements are incredibly hypocritical in boycotting the only democracy in the region. In addition, Rep. Engel called the European Union’s decision to label products exported from the West Bank a disgrace.
Lastly, Engel expressed his deep sadness over the current violence in Israel and emphasized his solidarity with the country and those affected by terrorist attacks.
Rep. Engel underscored the importance of reaching out to our congressmen and expressing our opinions and concerns about the US-Israel relationship, as it truly makes a difference on Capitol Hill. Rep. Engel will be running for reelection in 2016.
