NORPAC Hosts Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) in Englewood

(Courtesy of NORPAC) On Sunday, Michael and Debbie Blumenthal hosted a NORPAC pro-Israel event for Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) at their home in Englewood, New Jersey. Murphy was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012 as the then-youngest member to hold such an office. He sits on the powerful Committee on Appropriations, which oversees the U.S. budget on security aid to Israel, among many other items. Murphy is also a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the ranking Democratic member of the subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation.

Following the U.S. abstaining from an anti-Israel U.N. resolution vote at the end of 2016, Murphy stated that the U.N. is “just fundamentally today not a fair forum for Israel… It is not a place in which Israel is going to get a fair look… The U.S. policy should be to keep Israel out of harm’s way at the U.N.”

Last year at a press conference, Murphy reaffirmed that “Israel is our most important ally in the Middle East,” and that “Jerusalem is and always will be the capital of the State of Israel.”

He is a co-sponsor of the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2018, which guarantees a minimum $3.3 billion in security aid to Israel this coming fiscal year.

Chris Murphy is finishing his first term in the Senate and is seeking his re-election this November.
