On a recent Sunday night, Billy & Marion Weiss hosted a NORPAC pro-Israel event for Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) at their home in Englewood. Fischer is the senior senator from Nebraska, having first been elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012. She currently serves as a member of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s leadership team, and she chairs the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces.
Senator Fischer’s remarks during the event focused greatly on US missile defense and America’s cooperation with Israel on anti-missile-technology development. The Armed Services Committee, of which she is a member, has voted on supporting joint development of Iron Dome, Arrow II & III and David’s Sling anti-missile systems.
The senator also addressed recent aggressive actions by North Korea. She was a co-sponsor of the North Korea Sanctions Enforcement Act of 2016, which targets Pyongyang’s access to foreign markets. She expressed worry over North Korea’s increasing connection with Iran and the possibility that the two nations could share technology that could be used in the development and advancement of Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) capable of delivering nuclear warheads.
Deb Fischer will be running for re-election in 2018.
