In October, the North End Grill opened their doors as a kosher dine-in meat restaurant on North Avenue in New Rochelle. Their website highlights their menu, which features “a diverse selection of comfort food classics and globally inspired dishes, catering to a wide range of tastes and preferences.”

Local investors have been working closely with owner Rafi Halpert for over five years to bring another kosher eatery to New Rochelle. Halpert explained: “We were close before COVID, which then threw a monkey wrench in our plans. The right opportunity presented itself when the North End Tavern was for sale. The setup was already established and the facility was properly zoned.”

Halpert continued: “We felt there was a need for another kosher meat restaurant in New Rochelle, a place for families to enjoy a meal with their kids, for kids to hang out with their friends on a Thursday or on a Saturday night, and a place where people could gather to have a drink and watch a game. The investors agreed that this restaurant would fill a void in the community.”

The restaurant has a fully stocked bar and many beers on tap. On any night, patrons can watch multiple sporting events or news stories on the many televisions around the restaurant. When the weather gets warmer, patrons will be able to choose from indoor or outdoor seating. Under the hashgacha of the OU, the restaurant has lunch, dinner and a seasonal Saturday night menu. That menu features burgers, schnitzel, tacos, soups, sandwiches, salads, wings and fries, as well as steaks and fish. One of the most popular items on the menu is “create your own salad,” offering a variety of proteins, vegetables, toppings and dressings. In addition, the restaurant hosts happy hour food and drink specials.

To further service the community, the restaurant is available for private events, such as sheva brachot and hosting Shabbat meals. The North End Grill is also available to cater kiddushin and other events, and is planning to expand with a Shabbat take-out menu on Fridays.

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner, Sundays through Thursdays, on Fridays for Shabbat take-out, as well as Saturday nights, on a seasonal basis. They have teamed up with Uber Eats and DoorDash for deliveries.

Halpert noted the opening has been very well received. “People are very excited about it for obvious reasons: to have another kosher option, a place that has better hours and is open later, a place to hang out and a place where you can get a drink, all locally. The North End Grill is one of the only places in New Rochelle where you can go to get a drink and some food and watch a game without going downtown and mixing with the New Rochelle college scene.”

New Rochelle mom Michelle Goldberg, who celebrated her birthday with her family at the restaurant, said: “I have spent all my life living in New Rochelle and have seen many kosher restaurants come and go. I am really excited and hopeful that all of the growth in this area will help another kosher restaurant thrive. My kids are also super excited to have another option. It was such a pleasure on a weeknight to have a nice place to go out to dinner as a family and still have my kids in bed on time.”

Rafi Zlotnick, also of New Rochelle, said: “I am so excited to have another local kosher restaurant where I can go with my family. I am also thrilled to have a place where I can watch games with my friends, have a drink and enjoy kosher food.”

Rhonda Rose from White Plains commented: “North End Grill is a great addition to have for those looking for a solid, kosher meal in Westchester. There are plenty of delicious options for everyone in the family. My kids love the burgers with pastrami on top and the loaded fries with bits of brisket and ‘bacon.’ We also love the wings and look forward to bringing my in-laws from Florida in for a meal.”
