Not Taking This Seriously

I am writing this letter on Motzei Shabbos on May 2. Today was a very beautiful day with 70 degree weather and I had the opportunity to walk around Teaneck. I was very disappointed to see so many people not taking our current situation seriously. I saw many community members walking but not social distancing and, most disturbing, many were not wearing masks. It is strongly recommended by the CDC that everyone wear a mask outdoors.

As of Erev Shabbos, there were 1012 cases of COVID-19 in Teaneck, and a week before there were 932 cases. Even though we have been isolating, the cases in Teaneck continue to rise. We all need to take this seriously. Even though we have been in isolation for more than a month, the coronavirus is still a threat and people should continue to abide by local and federal guidelines.

I hope this Shabbos when I walk around town, I will see everyone in masks and social distancing.
