At a November 8 rally at Columbia University immediately following the Amsterdam pogrom, several Jewish activists spoke about the connection between antisemitism on college campuses and rising Jew-hatred around the world.
As stated by Columbia Professor Shai Davidai: “There is a link—a direct, ideological link—between what we saw happening yesterday in Amsterdam [and] what we have been seeing happening on U.S. campuses and Canadian campuses, and city centers, and city councils. And the hostages that are being held for 399 days. And that direct link is what they have been telling us that they will do: globalize the intifada.”
Felice Schachter, of Mothers Against College Antisemitism, strongly rebuked Columbia for its failure to act against antisemitism: “What happened in Amsterdam last night started here at Columbia! This needs to stop. … This is not Germany 1939 and ‘never again’ is now and ‘never again’ is a promise.”
