Congregation Ohav Emeth of Highland Park invites members of the community to its Fall 2019 Scholar-In-Residence Shabbat, featuring Rabbi Menachem Penner, on Saturday, September 28.
He will speak on Shabbat morning, before Musaf (approx. 10:30 a.m.), on the topic “Nitzavim Before Vayeilech: Child Development and Teshuva.”
He will talk at 5:20 p.m. (one hour before Mincha) on “Forget Me Not: Putting God Back Into Tefillah.”
He will speak again after Mincha (approx. 6:40 p.m.), during seuda shelishit, on “Avraham and Hagar: Two Fateful Journeys.”
Rabbi Menachem Penner is the Max and Marion Grill Dean of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary at Yeshiva University. Rabbi Penner served as the spiritual leader of the Young Israel of Holliswood in Queens for 20 years and is now the rabbi emeritus. He continues to teach, focusing on Tanach, Tefillah and Machshavah, in Queens and in communities worldwide.
The parent of a child with special needs, Rabbi Penner also speaks across the country on issues of families facing disabilities. Rabbi Penner received his semicha and undergraduate degree from Yeshiva University.
