Reflecting their hakarat hatov to two pillars of their community, Rabbi Eliezer and Aviva Kaminetzky, Congregation Ohav Emeth of Highland Park is excited to announce a Torah dedication in their honor, to be held on Sunday, June 16.
Rabbi Kaminetzky served as religious leader of Congregation Ohav Emeth from 1967 until his retirement in 1999. He played an essential role in the congregation’s move from New Brunswick to its current building in Highland Park in 1983. Additionally, he is credited with leading the effort to establish the Highland Park mikvah in 1969 and providing halachic supervision of the mikvah until the Vaad HaRabonim assumed responsibility in 2010. Rabbi Kaminetzky also served as chaplain of the Highland Park Police Department for over 20 years and received the Volunteer of the Year award from Highland Park in 2015.
Aviva Kaminetzky is a noted educator who was very active in the shul, teaching shiurim on many different occasions and participating in other programs of the shul.
The dedication of the Torah, prepared in Israel, will include a procession on the block around the synagogue, divrei Torah and a luncheon. Formal invitations to the event will be mailed shortly.
