Teaneck–The OHEL Northern New Jersey Regional Family Center recently hosted the Yeshiva Counseling Network, a network of school psychologists from around the tri-state area for a workshop with OHEL’s director of Trauma and Bereavement, Dr. Norman Blumenthal, held in Ohel offices in Teaneck.
School psychologists and mental health support staff from Ben Porat Yosef, Bruriah, Frisch, Kushner (RKYHS), Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School, Magen David Yeshiva, MTA, RYNJ, SAR, TABC, Yavneh Academy, Yeshiva Ketana of Passaic, Yeshivat Noam and project S.A.F.E were all in attendance.
The Yeshiva Counseling Network is organized by Dr. Aliza Frohlich, the school psychologist of the Yavneh Academy in Paramus and the event was organized by Dr. Frohlich and Rabbi Jeremy Donath, OHEL’s community coordinator of Northern NJ.
Dr. Blumenthal presented various traumatic scenarios that a student may face throughout their lifetime, and how schools, at elementary and high school levels, can best assist their students in dealing with each crisis. The training provided a way for the various school psychologists, each with their own developed support staff, to draw from the expertise and experience of Dr. Blumenthal in an effort for continued education in this difficult area.
