Your story this past week about the impending aliyah and marriage (Double Mazel Tov!!) of Michelle and Tzvi who have faced special challenges throughout their lives was heartwarming, and even further endeared them to all who know them (“Teaneck’s Styler Family Preps for Aliyah,” August 18, 2022). We all pray that together they will build a beautiful home and that their obvious love for each other will overcome any other obstacles they may face.
I noted the mention of approximately 20 organizations who embraced them and played a role in helping integrate them into the community. Yasher koach to them all, though one organization seems to deserve way more than a mere mention.
Ohel’s Bais Ezra—its directors, counselors and volunteers, live with and shelter hundreds of individuals throughout the New York area. They do the heavy lifting that no other organization does. While residents of New Jersey will soon learn to, b’ezrat Hashem, appreciate the same services to be provided by the Bayit Association (ditto J-ADD), Ohel has been providing this service for 53 years. Having witnessed the immense devotion, dedication and professionalism of my former colleagues over nearly a decade, I can unequivocally say that true heroes live among us.
