OHEL to Expand Services to Children and the Elderly in NYC

For families of children affected by either possible mental health and/or developmental disability diagnoses, OHEL Children’s Home and Family Services is here, now ever more able to help those in need.

Thanks in large part to a grant awarded to OHEL from New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), to provide family-centered Early Childhood Mental Health Treatment in Brooklyn, OHEL will be able to provide comprehensive support in both timely assessment and effective treatment.

This OHEL program will actively assess, diagnose and treat mental health and developmental disorders in natural community-based settings, as in OHEL’s regional family centers in Brooklyn and Far Rockaway.

Simcha Feuerman, Senior Director of OHEL adds, “The award provides OHEL the opportunity to leverage its 46 years of experience and expertise in the areas of both mental wellness and developmental disability, and now through the expansion in the community of early-diagnosis and early-intervention services, OHEL will be able to more effectively treat and serve individuals and families.”

With the baby-boom generation coming of age, and the acute demands of this population, there have been increasing strains on OHEL to meet the ever increasing needs of this community.

Now thanks to four recently awarded grants from New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), OHEL will be able to better serve the elderly population in NYC.

Harriet Blank, OHEL’s Director of Geriatric Services comments, “From out-patient mental health services to elder support groups, OHEL is thankful for this opportunity to invest in more programs that directly elevate the lives of seniors in the community. We believe the grants awarded are a testimony to the recognition of OHEL’s experience and stellar reputation both within the community and without.”

OHEL’s outpatient psychotherapy services are available in Brooklyn and Queens, as well as OHEL’s new innovative health, diet and wellness programs. OHEL accepts Medicaid, Medicare and most insurance plans.
