Did any of you take a break from watching the “bloviating” political characters to watch the 2024 Olympics? What a joy to see people succeed through a system that is based on ability and performance. What a thrill just to watch the skill of Stephen Curry and the numerous American athletes who demonstrated that entitlement should be the result of just being better than others. It is important to remember that protestors and bigots of all kinds did not prevent the events and the athletes from the various countries from participating. The country of origin or their ethnicity did not matter. Unlike politics, success did not depend on some artificial factor that allowed less endowed people to win a medal. Even little Israel won seven medals, one gold.

It has not always been this way for Jewish athletes. In the 1936 Olympics held in Berlin, a well-known female German high jumper, Gretel Bergman, was not permitted to participate because she was Jewish. An American top runner, Marty Glickman, was not permitted to run in Berlin in 1936 on the American relay team which won a gold medal — he was Jewish. Even the safety of Jewish athletes was violated when in the 1972 Olympics held in Munich the Israeli wrestling team was massacred. Jews have demonstrated over and over again that when skill determines success that is the barrier they should have to face. Jews are not included in DEI. If anything should prove this, check with Josh Shapiro.
