I read the letter titled “Israel Real Estate Expos Will Thrive Better Online” (February 20, 2025), and my first thought was this letter was a “Purim spiel.”
The writer clearly has never been to a show because his opinion would be the exact opposite if he ever attended a fair. Various sellers and agents, who do need the income, have tables and booths to show the properties available. Like any other trade show in the world, meeting presenters and seeing first hand available properties is sometimes key to a sale for both sides. Online Zoom meetings do not have the same effect.
I am not sure where the writer comes up with “not making friends.” “police going after both sides” and “lives are being put at risk.” Has he ever been at a real estate show? I don’t agree with anything he says concerning the ramifications of these shows. True, police have to work at keeping the peace between the two sides. I don’t think this is a new concept for police departments. Additionally, his comment that “shows are meant to make a political statement” is pure ignorance. Sellers are trying to make a living in these tough times and his attitude is just wrong.
Finally, his last comment, “the burden imposed is too much to bear,” is laughable. I guess living in Brooklyn is tough for this writer and I feel sorry for him. I don’t know what burden he is bearing, but maybe try going to Israel and seeing the burden Israelis are bearing.
Very sad that there Jews who feel this way.
