The Tahel Crisis Center for Religious Women and Children, an Israeli non-profit organization, hosted hundreds of Orthodox Jews from every stream to discuss sexual abuse and such issues, including trafficking, that face the community. “This is the first conference of its kind. It’s the largest and has the broadest participation,” said Rabbi Yosef Blau, Dean at RIETS and a dayan on the new International Beit Din that is going to deal with such issues inside marriage. “The public setting and the fact that so many mainstream Orthodox organizations and institutions are participating, and that politicians and Israel’s chief rabbi [David Lau] are speaking, is a statement that the Orthodox community accepts the fact that we have sexual abusers and spousal abusers,” he said. There was also a discussion about pedophilia and neuroscience, and how the community would interact with law enforcement agencies in cases of sexual abuse. On Monday, the Tahel Crisis Center posted a clip to the net explaining that Rav Elyshev and others have determined that it is correct and important to report abusers to avoid chillul Hashem and destroying the soul of a child. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vICOGmbf3WE
