Our Diet Directly Impacts Our Cancer Risk

I am responding to Dr. Alfred Neugut’s article titled “Diet and Cancer” (April 8, 2021). Does diet affect cancer? Unquestionably, indisputably and undeniably, YES!!! Nothing interacts with our cells more intimately than the food we eat!

Cancer’s voracious appetite for sugar is well- known and, in fact, the method used to find a cancerous mass in one’s body is to inject dyed blue sugar. The cancer immediately gobbles up the sugar and its location is thereby identified. Dr. William Li has a TedX talk examining if a specific diet can starve cancer. In his talk with over five million views, he brings studies proving that diet can prevent, limit and even reverse cancer. The talk I reference was given a decade ago and since then mounds of statistical data and numerous case studies demonstrating the power of diet to heal cancer have been documented.

Documentaries such as “Forks over Knives,” “What the Health” and “The Truth About Cancer” all stress the importance of diet in healing cancer and other diseases. “Chris Beat Cancer” is an invaluable resource for those wishing to heal any kind of cancer, with tested and proven protocols.

The China study is the most comprehensive study of nutrition ever conducted. The main author, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, mentions in multiple interviews how he was able to turn on and off cancer causing genes simply by adding or detracting animal protein from the test subject’s diet.

To explain how cancer and most other diseases work, imagine a long highway, which at the end branches off into numerous exits. The first exit is called “Cancer”; the others are “Heart Disease,” “Alzheimer’s” and “Diabetes.” This imaginary highway’s name is “Inflammation.” Many if not all diseases are caused by inflammation! If one could cut off the highway by stopping or limiting inflammation, the scourge of disease could be avoided. To do this we must know what causes the body to become inflamed. The answer to this is animal protein! In fact, when animal protein is consumed the IGF-1 (Insulin Growth Factor) spikes, and this is step one in the formation of cancer. Plant foods are anti-inflammatory.

Unfortunately, many doctors today still do not appreciate the power of food and do not realize how it directly affects our health. They know little about diet because generally medical schools do not teach nutrition.

Two and a half years ago a well-respected cardiologist became vegan after a patient of his came in for a checkup looking fit and healthy and had an amazing blood workup, which caused the doctor to ask what the patient had done. He said he went vegan. At a Kiddush not long after the doctor turned vegan, he turned to me and asked me to inspect his plate to see if it was “healthy.” A cardiologist asking for my opinion? Yes! Because he never was taught nutrition! I am certain that by now the doctor has caught up on his knowledge in nutrition.
