For the past few weeks I have been waking up on Sunday mornings feeling excited and energized by the amazing training class I have been going to, led by the exceptional Chani (Carol) Teigman.
Our team, the “Garden State Warriors,” has been working hard every Sunday to get in shape for the Fourth Annual OXC-OHEL Xtreme Challenge taking place on Sunday, May 27th at Camp Kaylie in Wurtsboro, NY. At the OXC, we will be challenging our bodies and testing our limits and will be running, climbing, crawling, jumping, and swinging through the five mile obstacle course.
The main purpose of the OXC is to raise money for OHEL, which is an extraordinary organization dedicated to serving individuals and their families who struggle every day with a myriad of life’s hardships. Their services range from foster care to mental health and family wellness services, to providing residential housing to those with developmental disabilities, and sadly the list goes on.
This past Sunday, our training consisted of spin, weights, rowing, cardio, and strength training exercises and it was exhilarating. Our growing team is a diverse group of people from throughout Bergen County and we are mix of familiar faces and newcomers. So far, we have meshed really well together and we are all determined to have the largest group at the OXC and to finish in first place in fundraising. No one remembers who finishes in second place!
Our team is growing and just this past alone, we welcomed 4 new members who saw my update in last week’s Jewish Link and wanted to join in on the fun. Anyone can join our team and we are looking for more people looking to take on a worthy challenge while benefiting a great cause.
Our current team members are: Adeena Csillag, Tamar Edell, Lori Frank, Chava Gamss, Michael Gutlove, Linda Hoffman, Dena Kinderlehrer, Pam Newman, Jonathan Packer, Michael & Tutu Packer, Ken and Debbie Rutz, Alissa Selevan, Aliza Solomon, Andrew Teigman, Chani and Jason Teigman, Aliza Zeffren and Tali Zelenetz.
We meet every Sunday morning at 11:30 at The Gym in Englewood. If you can’t make the training sessions, don’t fret- you could still join our team. To join, go to www.oheloxc.org and join The Garden State Warriors Team.
