Avi Issacharoff reports in The Times of Israel that more than 250 Hamas and Islamic Jihad activists were jailed by the PA since the Gaza war ended. The PA holds Hamas directly responsible for the violence in Jerusalem and the attempts to ignite riots in the West Bank in order to destabilize the area. According to Issacharoff’s sources, “well-known Hamas religious figures, some mid-level operatives and several organizers of recent West Bank rallies and parades were arrested by the PA’s General Intelligence agency under Majed Faraj and the Palestinian Preventive Security organization under Ziad Habalreeh. He noted that despite Abbas’ public pronouncements that accused Israel of declaring war on the Arabs, it is he who is “personally dictating the tough policies against Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the West Bank.” Israeli security officials said that on the whole, “levels of violence have remained low” in the West Bank, despite Hamas’ provocations.
