(Jacob Magid/TOI Staff) In an operation in the West Bank city of Jenin on Wednesday night, Israeli army special forces killed a Palestinian terrorist believed to be behind the murder last week of Raziel Shevah, Hy”d. A second suspect in the murder was arrested, and a hunt was ongoing for a third, security officials said.
An elite Border Police unit came under fire at the start of the incident, police said. Several people were reported wounded.
“In the gun battle that took place there are a number of injuries,” a police statement said. All further details were placed under a gag order, including the identity of those injured.
Palestinian media identified the dead terrorist as Ahmed Jarrar, 22, the son of a senior Hamas military wing member, Nasser Jarrar, who was killed by Israeli forces 16 years ago during the second intifada.
The terrorists were believed to be members of the cell that gunned down Shevah on January 9.
