Park East Ends Historic Basketball Season

On March 12, just a day before Purim, Park East and Shefa agreed to play the “Ultimate Championship” basketball game as part of the CONSAT league. This game was back and forth, with one team pulling away in the end. Before the game started, the assigned ref was a no show, but the game must go on, so (the one who has written all the others, and this one too) yours truly, Dovid Halpert, and a parent from Shefa, were assigned as the referees. Just like the league championship game from late March, Park East trailed 7-0 after the first quarter, and then they fought back, but when they got on a run, Shefa had an answer. Despite a first half where Park East trailed as much as 9. Both teams continued to battle, we saw some highlight plays from Park East which included a behind the back pass for a layup and a couple of long 3 pointers made by #11 Mark Diary. But in the end, despite having more team fouls, Shefa was left unbothered, and won the Ultimate Championship by a final score of 40-25, winning the gold trophy, as Park East took home the silver runner up trophy. After the game, both teams shared a photo together showing amazing sportsmanship to one another and amazing respect. Shefa ends another great basketball season with a gold trophy. As for Park East, they had their best sports season in school program history. A league championship trophy along with first place medals, a runner trophy and 12 wins in 15 games played, which is the most ever by any sports team of Park East Day School. And they’ll add the school’s first championship banner for basketball and sports. Congratulations to both schools on a historic, amazing and successful season. All I can say is that it ends with both schools showing respect and great sportsmanship for the other. That, to me, is the true “Ultimate Championship.”
