(Courtesy of Yeshiva World News and combined sources) King of Delancey Deli in Passaic was destroyed in a fire early Wednesday morning. Firefighters arrived at the scene at around 5:30 a.m. and found heavy smoke billowing from the windows. One man and woman were rescued from an apartment above the restaurant.
According to Passaic Fire Chief Patrick Trentacost, the fire started in the basement and spread to the first floor, eventually traveling up the walls to the upper floors.
According to NJ.com, Passaic fire, police and EMS were on the scene, along with Carlstadt, Wallington, Woodland Park and East Rutherford fire departments, Moonachie Rescue and PSE&G. Between 80 and 90 firefighters were working to put out the fire.
King of Delancey has been serving the Passaic Jewish community for the past eight years. It is a fleishig restaurant serving family-friendly fare.
