Passaic Yiddle League Lauds Middos Above All

This past Sunday, the Yiddle League regular season continued with some great nail-biters, including the Fightin’ Phils vs. Fireflies and Railriders vs. Thunder. More importantly though, the Yiddle League Middos Awards Program—an integral part of each Yiddle League season—began. The program, which attempts to emphasize the importance of taking the lessons learned in school of proper middos onto the playing field, allows a boy on each team to be eligible to receive a certificate at one of the local stores (King of Delancey, Prima Pizza and Bagel Munch) or to receive a trophy at the end of the season from The Local Pages. This program is a unique aspect that distinguishes Yiddle League from Little Leagues and the like. Yiddle League is focused on the boys enjoying themselves while playing competitive games in a respectful manner; winning is not the be-all and end-all. The League espouses that children should be able to play a game without added pressure from parents who at times, unfortunately, are over involved and acutely competitive.

On Sunday, Eli Weintraub, of Eli Weintraub Photography, photographed the players at their various field locations throughout Passaic and Clifton. The teams played numerous games over the weekend and although Monday’s weather did not look promising, the day turned into one ripe for baseball. The highlight of the long weekend games was a grand slam from Yehuda Schwartz, who celebrated becoming bar mitzvah with a show of some adult power.
