If you are looking to maximize your mitzvah opportunities after Yom Kippur, Ahavat Achim in Fair Lawn is the place for you. Why focus on just one Yom Tov preparation at a time when there’s a place right next door where the whole family can simultaneously learn, laugh, and lulav their way into Sukkot? Ahavat Achim will present a Pre-Sukkot Mitzvah Marathon to feature a host of mitzvah-related opportunities on Sunday, October 5 at 9 a.m. While one corner will offer adult volunteers the chance to help raise the rafters of the shul’s beautiful Sukkah, children will have the opportunity to display serious craftsmanship at a Sukkah-decorating workshop, under the auspices of Ahavat Achim’s Gitta Cooperwasser Youth Program, which will be held in the shul’s social hall (to begin at 9:30). As has been the case for several years, Ahavat Achim will be teaming up with Bnei Akiva for the sale of lulavim and etrogim.
In addition to preparations for Sukkot, a very exciting feature of the day will be a special father-son workshop for pre-bar mitzvah boys [and recently post-bar mitzvah boys] who are thinking about a new mitzvah about to come their way: Rabbi Dov Goldzweig, an expert sofer STA”M [scribe] from Israel, will take the boys on a tour of their tefillin, including a demonstration of how the Torah passages are written.
Located at 18-25 Saddle River Road in Fair Lawn, Ahavat Achim’s Mitzvah Marathon will provide an exciting jump-start to a great Yom Tov. For more information, please check out www.ahavatachim.org, our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/ahavat.achim or follow us on Twitter @AhavatAchimFL.
